Each year, ITO EN hosts the \u201cOi Ocha New Haiku Contest,\u201d which is regarded as the largest Japanese-language poetry competition in the world.<\/h4>\n<h4 data-start=\"588\" data-end=\"992\">In the 36th contest this year, a total of <strong data-start=\"630\" data-end=\"660\">1.84 million haiku entries<\/strong> were submitted by <strong data-start=\"679\" data-end=\"737\">about 487,000 participants from 61 countries worldwide<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"741\" \/>Amid this highly competitive environment\u2014<strong data-start=\"782\" data-end=\"837\">with only 1 out of every 369 entries being selected<\/strong>\u2014<br data-start=\"838\" data-end=\"841\" \/><strong data-start=\"841\" data-end=\"919\">Ming Chuan University Department of Applied Japanese student, Jang Jui-Lin<\/strong>, was proudly chosen as an <strong data-start=\"946\" data-end=\"977\">Honorable Mention recipient<\/strong> for his haiku:<\/h4>\n<h3 data-start=\"996\" data-end=\"1051\"><em data-start=\"996\" data-end=\"1051\">\u300c\u925b\u7b46\u306e\u5148\u306b\u8fbc\u3081\u305f\u308b\u6211\u304c\u6c7a\u610f\u300d\u201cI press my determination into the tip of my pencil.\u201d<\/em><\/h3>\n<h4 data-start=\"1053\" data-end=\"1451\">Jang shared that the inspiration came from his high-school days, capturing the quiet yet steadfast moment before an exam\u2014when all effort, resolve, and belief in oneself are focused at the very tip of a pencil.<br data-start=\"1262\" data-end=\"1265\" \/>This haiku expresses the courage to shape one\u2019s own future and move forward with confidence.
